Q: How can I participate in the Leadership Institute?

A: The Leadership Institute (LI) offers a variety of sessions and programs designed to address comprehensive skill development in competencies identified as essential for leaders in dermatology. A variety of opportunities are available for interested members:

  • Leadership Institute sessions at the Annual and Summer Academy Meetings: Sessions at the 2013 Summer Academy Meeting, which are labeled with the LI logo, will address leading change, group dynamics, and office politics.
  • The Leadership Forum: A two-and-a-half day, intensive retreat with sessions on self-awareness, communication, and staff management. Participation requires an online application, CV, and two letters of recommendation.  Applications for the 2014 forum will be accepted beginning in July 2013.
  • Academic Dermatology Leadership Program: A year-long program that includes sessions at the Annual and Summer Academy meetings and a relationship with an assignment mentor throughout the year. Participation requires an online application, CV, and two letters of recommendation. Applications for the 2014 program will be accepted beginning in July 2013.
  • Mentorship opportunities: The Academy is seeking mentors in a variety of practice settings to be part of an organization-wide initiative to build a database of mentors.
