Following this course, the attendee should be able to:
- Recognize recent trends and developments in infectious diseases and infestations among returned travelers.
- Evaluate and diagnose affected patients more knowledgeably and effectively.
- Select the best treatment regimen for different infectious diseases and infestations in returned travelers.
This session, essentially an infestations and infectious diseases update, will highlight the most frequent skin maladies among returned travelers in the USA and the Americas. Topics will include cutaneous larva migrans, bed bugs, skin bacterial infections (MRSA), skin superficial fungal infections (pityriasis versicolor), dengue, cutaneous leishmaniasis (chiclero ulcer), myiasis, spotted fever (rickettsia), scabies and gnathostomiasis (emerging disease). The presentation will emphasize trends and new developments, including diagnosis, therapy and changing patterns of disease. The session will be clinically germane and directly applicable to patient care.
