Following this course, the attendee should be able to:

  • Recognize when patch testing is indicated.
  • Summarize how patch testing is performed.

Description:
The basic science and principles of allergic contact dermatitis will be discussed. Indications to perform patch testing, including when to be suspicious of allergic contact dermatitis, will be presented. An overview of allergens frequently implicated in allergic contact dermatitis will be provided. The presentation will then provide a detailed outline of the patch test protocol. Finally, illustrative case-based examples of allergic contact dermatitis which were verified through patch testing will be exhibited.
