MOC: Let your voice be heard
The ABD sent out a survey on Tuesday, July 7, seeking input on MOC from diplomates. The Academy encourages you to respond to this survey. Only the ABD, not the Academy, can make changes in its MOC requirements. 

2016 Medicare Physician Fee Schedule proposed rule released
The proposed rule estimates dermatology to see overall a 1 percent increase in 2016 payments and proposes an additional quality measure for dermatologists in practice.

ABD sends letter to diplomates outlining MOC changes
"We are acutely aware of the many competing demands on physician time and that MOC is imperfect. We are unanimous in our conviction that the concept is sound and in the interest of our patients but realize the need to simplify the program and make it more meaningful."   

AADA statement in response to King vs. Burwell  
The AADA has voiced its concerns with the ACA in the past, but has remained committed to improving the law so that it does not undermine patients’ access to care and treatment or physicians’ ability to treat their patients. The Supreme Court found that citizens in state and federal exchanges under the ACA remain eligible to receive federal subsidies to purchase coverage.

House passes IPAB repeal legislation to protect senior access to care
The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill that permanently repeals the Independent Payment Advisory Board (IPAB) provision of the Affordable Care Act. As a top advocacy priority, the AADA has been aggressively working to build bipartisan support for the legislation on Capitol Hill. The AADA encourages its members to use Dermatology Advocacy Network to urge the Senate to pass the bill.

Academy discuss MOC survey results with ABD
Academy sent a letter to the ABD on May 28 to discuss findings of a recent survey of Academy membership on the perceived value of MOC.

Bill to repeal tanning tax undermines public health
The Academy joined 70 organizations in signing a letter in support of the current federal tax on indoor tanning. 

Changes ahead for meaningful use 
On April 11, CMS released a proposed rule that would make significant changes to meaningful use, including changing the reporting period to 90 days in 2015 as well as removing several core and menu set measures from the program and reducing the reporting thresholds for other measures.

JAAD Case Reports, a new peer-reviewed, open access, online-only journal dedicated to publishing case reports, is now accepting manuscripts.
