International Society Annual Meeting Travel Grant

The AAD offers grants to dermatology residents, fellows, or young dermatologists (within five years of completing residency) from the United States and Canada for travel to dermatology meetings in Asia, Europe, and Latin America. The program offers participants an opportunity to meet foreign colleagues and establish long-lasting professional relationships.

Criteria

  • Maximum of two applicants per residency program.
  • One applicant per residency program per international meeting.
  • One year of of training or more must be completed by the time of the meeting.
  • Individuals may receive an International Society Travel Grant only once during their careers.
  • Residency program directors must provide applicants with a  signed letter of recommendation (PDF preferred format), to be attached to online applications, which indicates approval of time off for society meetings. 
  • Prior to applying, all potential scheduling conflicts must be resolved to avoid taking the opportunity away from other applicants.
  • No deferrals permitted. Eligible applicants may reapply the following year if unable to accept scholarship.

Through mutual arrangements with several international dermatological societies, a number of travel grants are available for U.S. and Canadian residents, fellows, or young dermatologists (within five years of completing residency) to attend these societies' meetings. Each scholarship program has different requirements and provisions. 

Brazilian Society of Dermatology (SBD):

  • Two scholarships available.
  • Complimentary registration and accommodations.
  • Recipients must be fluent and understand written Portuguese or Spanish.
  • 2016 Dates TBD

 British Association of Dermatologists (BAD):

  • Four scholarships available.
  • Complimentary registration and hotel accommodations (bed and breakfast), including an invitation to the President's Reception and the Annual Dinner. Children cannot be be accommodated.
  • July 5-7, 2016, ICC Birmingham

Chilean Society of Dermatology (SOCHIDERM):

  • Two scholarships available.
  • Ground transportation provided to meeting locations.
  • Complimentary registration and accommodations; $500 stipend (USD) provided at the meeting.
  • Attendees must understand and speak Spanish fairly well.
  • April 7-9, 2016, Hotel Sheraton Miramar, Vina del Mar

Dermatological Society of Singapore (DSS):

  • One scholarship available.
  • Complimentary registration for one course during the conference 
  • One- to two-week clinical observation attachment to the various dermatological training centers in Singapore, such as the National Skin Centre, Changi General Hospital, and/or Singapore General Hospital.
  • April 21-24, 2016,  Raffles Town Club

European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV):

  • Three scholarships available.
  • $750 (USD) stipend, complimentary registration, and accommodations.
  • September 28-October 2, 2016, Vienna, Austria

French Society of Dermatology (FSD):

  • Two scholarships available.
  • $1,500 euro stipend and complimentary registration.
  • Attendees must be fluent in French.

Indian Association of Dermatologists, Venereologists, and Leprologists (IADVL):

  • Two scholarships available.
  • Recipients to submit a summary of their work in dermatology for presentation at the conference (poster).
  • Complimentary registration for the meeting and one dermatology/dermatosurgery course.
  • January 21-24, 2016, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu

Irish Association of Dermatologists (IAD):

  • Two scholarships available.
  • Complimentary two nights of accommodation, meeting registration, and dinner.
  • April 24-25, 2015, Carton House Hotel, Maynooth, Co. Kildare

Israel Society of Dermatology and Venereology (ISDV):

  • Two scholarships available. 
  • Complimentary registration for scientific and social programs.
  • $500 (USD) stipend to be delivered at the meeting.
  • At the time of travel, no U.S. State Department travel warning should be in place for Israel. 
  • May 18-20, 2016, Tel Aviv, Israel

Italian Society of Dermatology (SIDeMAST): 

  • Two scholarships available.
  • $500 euro stipend to be delivered at the meeting.
  • Complimentary housing and registration.
  • Attendees must be fluent in Italian.
  • May 25-28, 2016, Genoa, Italy

Mexican Academy of Dermatology:

  • Two scholarships available for each meeting (a total of 6 scholarships available)
  • Complimentary registration for the meeting and lodging (three days).
  • Attendees must be able to speak and understand Spanish. 
  • LXII Congreso Anual de Terepeutica Dermatologica: April 20-23, 2016, World Trade Center, Mexico City

  • XXI Congreso Internacional de Dermatoscopia y VI Congreso Internacional de Dermatopatologia: June 16-18, 2016, World Trade Center, Mexico City
    (2 scholarships available)
  • XXII Congreso-Jornadas en Provincia: October 12-15, 2016, Palenque, Chiapas
    (2 scholarships available)

Scottish Dermatological Society (SDS): 

  • One scholarship available. 
  • 750 pounds sterling stipend and complimentary registration and accommodations (with local families). 
  • One-week commitment, including a tour of some of the other Scottish dermatology departments (Edinburgh, Dundee, and Aberdeen) in the three to four days before the annual meeting.
  • 2016 Dates TBD, Paisley, Glasgow
