Strategic goals

Our strategic plan includes four strategic goals, each of which is supported by several objectives. Learn more about them below.

Advocacy

Goal: Advocate to ensure that all member dermatologists can effectively and efficiently practice dermatology.

  • Implement the annual advocacy agenda.

  • Advance Medicare payment reform.

  • Ensure accurate and sustainable reimbursement for established, new, and evolving methods of patient interaction, care, and treatment.

  • Strengthen relationships with state and specialty organizations within the house of medicine to address health inequities and promote patient access to quality treatments and care.

  • Work with like-minded stakeholders to advocate that all health care professionals adhere to truth in advertising and practice within a scope consistent with their level of training and experience.

  • Unify stakeholders within the specialty and the house of medicine to advance advocacy efforts.

  • Promote dermatologists as the experts on skin health and disease.

  • Reduce burdens associated with the administration of health care.

Education

Goal: Design and deliver the gold standard of dermatologic education.

  • Develop and deliver innovative, relevant, timely, and evidence-based educational offerings for dermatologists, dermatology residents, and fellows.

  • Identify and address gaps and needs in dermatologic education to ensure all patients receive high quality and compassionate care.

  • Foster a community of dermatologists through shared educational experiences.

  • Promote AAD leadership in global dermatology through scientific exchange and relationships with international dermatologists.

  • Foster the growth of leaders in dermatology by providing leadership development training and opportunities throughout their careers.

  • Provide leadership training and tools necessary to ensure that board-certified dermatologists effectively lead the dermatology care team.

  • Develop and disseminate public education on skin health and disease.

Access to care

Goal: Strengthen and safeguard access to dermatologic care for all.

  • Advance dermatologic services available to medically under-served populations.

  • Support responsible use of technology to enhance access to care.

  • Seek opportunities to expand the board-certified dermatologist workforce.

  • Foster diversity throughout dermatology.

  • Develop and offer practice management resources to improve practice efficiency, effectiveness, and ability to provide care.

  • Assess opportunities to deliver patient care through non-traditional methods.

  • Address barriers to care, including administrative burdens, narrow networks, and reduced access to medications and treatments, among others.

Data-driven transformation of care

Goal: Facilitate optimal patient care through the collection, analysis, interpretation, and utilization of data.

  • Improve data quality through the collection of comprehensive data that reflects the breadth and depth of dermatology.

  • Enhance identification and communication of best practice models.

  • Increase evidence of patient care improvements.

  • Develop and disseminate timely, data-driven guidelines of care.

  • Analyze and use data to support education, research, and advocacy efforts that demonstrate the value of dermatology.
