AADA advocacy delivers Senate Medicare payment reform bill
In a major advance in AADA’s fight for Medicare payment reform, the Senate introduced a bill on Aug. 1 aimed at addressing budget neutrality, a major cause of the ongoing physician payment cuts. This is a direct result of the AADA’s relentless advocacy on this issue, which is our sole congressional advocacy priority.
The Physician Fee Stabilization Act would update the budget neutrality thresholds in the current Medicare physician fee schedule, which have not been updated since 1992. The AADA thanks the senators who sponsored this monumental bill: Sens. Peter Welch (D-VT), John Boozman (R-AR), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Angus King (I-ME), Roger Marshall, MD (R-KS), and Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH).
The introduction of the Physician Fee Stabilization Act is a critical early step for Congress to stabilize the Medicare payment system, but we face a long road ahead. Every year, physicians face annual cuts and get only partial relief. At the same time, inflation has increased the cost for practices, further threatening physicians’ ability to provide care.
