Academy brings Hair Loss Awareness Month to the forefront

August was Hair Loss Awareness Month in 2024. The Academy uses awareness months as an opportunity to help spread information about skin, hair, and nail conditions to the public all while positioning board-certified dermatologists as the go-to experts.

The AAD’s Hair Loss Resource Center was a top stop for potential patients seeking information about hair loss. Public-facing hair loss resource pages generated nearly 200,000 views from over 140,000 unique visitors. On average, visitors spent one minute and 15 seconds on hair-loss-related webpages, almost 20 seconds longer than the average.

The Academy’s search engine optimization played a key role in driving the public to AAD.org. Additionally, in August, Academy resources were the top Google search result for the terms “alopecia areata treatment,” “male pattern hair loss,” and “hair loss and hairstyle,” and were second for “hair loss” and “alopecia.” When the public wants information on conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails, they know where to look — Google knows we are the experts on the topic and directs them to aad.org/public.
