The Leadership Institute includes a variety of stand-alone programs and sessions at Annual and Summer Academy meetings. Browse Academy leadership programs for young physicians below.

Leadership Forum

Designed specifically for early-career dermatologists in private practice and academics, the Leadership Forum is an interactive and enriching weekend that provides an opportunity to advance your leadership and communication skills while networking with colleagues and Academy leaders.

Eligibility requirements:

  • Must be a member of the AAD in good standing.
  • Must have completed at least one year post dermatology residency training.
  • Must be nine years or less since completing residency/fellowship training.
  • Must have completed residency training in dermatology or a fellowship in a dermatology subspecialty (e.g., dermatopathology).
  • Must not have attended a Leadership Forum in the past.

Academic Dermatology Leadership Program (ADLP)

The ADLP is a comprehensive year-long program that includes the Leadership Forum plus two additional face-to-face training sessions, as well as a mentor relationship. By applying for this program, you are agreeing to participate in all programs and activities:

1. Develop a relationship with the mentor of your choosing to assist, advise, and guide you throughout the year.

2. Attend on-site meetings, including:

  • A half day during the AAD Annual Meeting 
  • The AAD Leadership Forum 
  • A half day during the Summer Academy Meeting

Eligibility requirements:

  • Must be a member of the AAD in good standing.
  • Must have completed at least one year in post dermatology training.
  • Must be devoting at least 75 percent of your professional time to academics and have a strong commitment to the field.
  • Must be nine years or less since completing residency/fellowship training.
  • Must have completed residency training in dermatology or a fellowship in a dermatology subspecialty (e.g., dermatopathology).
