Prepare for camp

Getting ready to attend camp encompasses more than just packing your suitcase. Campers are encouraged to come with an open mind and a willingness to meet new friends and try new things. Camp Discovery is a supportive community where lasting friendships and resilience are fostered and strengthened by campers, staff, and volunteers — many who return year after year creating enduring relationships.

What to pack

If you will need assistance with any items on this packing list, please let us know by reaching out to Janine Mueller at jmueller@aad.org.

  • Several face masks (we may not need them, but will be good to have just in case)

  • Medications

  • Swimsuit

  • Beach towel

  • Water shoes or beach sandals to be worn to pool only

  • Shower shoes

  • Tennis shoes (closed toe) – to be worn at all times except in the cabins or at the pool

  • Wide-brimmed hat

  • Plastic bags for dirty/wet clothes

  • 4-5 pairs of shorts

  • 4-5 t-shirts (no tank tops allowed)

  • Sweatshirt or sweater for indoors

  • Toiletries

  • Sunscreen

  • Bug spray

  • Plenty of socks and undergarments

  • Pillow

  • Twin size sheet set and blanket or sleeping bag

Optional items

  • If your child has severe food allergies and highly restrictive dietary needs, please plan to pack and send in a cooler all meals and snacks for the week. Simple restrictions (i.e. the camp is peanut-free) are regularly enforced and can be accommodated.

  • Journal

  • Flashlight

  • Decorations for your cabin

  • Family photo

Please do not bring the following items

  • Candy/gum, or junk food – no food is allowed in the cabins. If you have special dietary needs, food will be stored separately in the kitchen.

  • CD player, iPod, handheld games

  • Excess money or valuables

  • Cell phones can be brought for travel purposes, to phone home upon arrival. However, they will be collected and not allowed during the week. To allow campers to fully engage in the camp experience, phone calls to or from home are discouraged unless there is an emergency. Families may also browse the daily photos uploaded to UltraCamp.
