Get involved
The impact of the programs and services of the American Academy of Dermatology is felt by the child with a chronic skin condition attending Camp Discovery, the man or woman teaching sun safety using free AAD resources, the kids who play outside beneath an AAD shade structure – the hundreds of thousands of people whose lives are touched by these vital initiatives. You, too, can get involved and help bring skin health to your community.
“We were so happy to be able to build a wonderful shade structure thanks to the AAD’s Shade Structure Grant Program. Now our students, both this year and in the future, will have the benefit of this structure. We’re so happy that all of these students will now have shade while they use the play area.”
─ Barbara Jo Smith, skin cancer survivor and principal of Juniata Elementary School in DuBois, Pennsylvania
“I’m 12 years old, and I have attended Camp Discovery for 4 years now. It’s nice to see other kids like me, kids who know about these skin conditions. It’s so comforting to see other kids like you when you’re at Camp Discovery.”
─ Silas DeHaven, Camp Discovery camper
“My skin cancer diagnosis took me by complete surprise. In the 25-to-35 range, you just don’t think you’re going to get skin cancer. Pursuing my passion and helping others affected by skin cancer is something I care deeply about. That’s what led me to join Skin Cancer, Take a Hike!™”
─ Megan Sullivan, skin cancer survivor
