Since 1985, Academy member dermatologists have volunteered their time and expertise to offer free skin cancer screenings to the public.
Since 1995, the Academy has designated the first Monday in May as Melanoma Monday®, which officially kicks off Melanoma/Skin Cancer Detection and Prevention Month®.
Since 2000, the Academy’s Shade Structure Grant Program has awarded grants for shade structures to schools, parks, and other similar organizations that serve children and have a commitment to sun safety.
Every two years, the Academy produces and distributes a new public service advertising campaign to educate the public about skin cancer prevention and detection.
Since 1999, the American Academy of Dermatology, Major League Baseball, and the Major League Baseball Players Association have partnered to raise awareness about skin cancer and offer detection and prevention tips for baseball players, team staff and fans.
