Building relationships and building leadership
Networking helped AAD member Benedict Wu, DO, PhD.
Dr. Wu’s story
I attended the 2023 Leadership Forum (LF) and found the sessions and networking events helpful to improve my public speaking skills and identify ways to improve teamwork. After the LF, I took the information from that weekend and applied it to the 2023 Innovation Academy talks and received better feedback from the audience.
I am now in the 2024 Academic Dermatology Leadership Program (ADLP), and my mentor is Dr. Misha Rosenbach, a revered leader in complex medical and inpatient dermatology. Both complex medical and inpatient dermatology are my clinical interests and expertise.
However, the ADLP has allowed me to connect with Dr. Rosenbach more personally, extending beyond career advice. Thus far, the ADLP and the LF have been instrumental in furthering my career development through mentorship, networking events, and leadership-focused courses.
The networking events allow us to build relationships and collaborations with other institutions. Without the ADLP’s formal structure, the opportunity to connect with my peers and mentor would be unlikely. I truly value the unique opportunities offered through the ADLP and LF programs and could not imagine not being a part of these fantastic programs!
