Enjoying the game and staying sun safe
Brad Koller, board president of Miracle League Field of Findlay, was happy to be able to protect both players and their families from sun exposure.
Brad’s story
Miracle League of Findlay is thrilled with our new shade structure at the Blanchard Valley Health System Miracle Park, in Findlay, Ohio. Miracle League of Findlay applied for the shade structure grant specifically for our Miracle Field, as it’s located in sunny northwest Ohio where playing children are exposed to the sun during our games in the spring and summer.
The Miracle Field of Findlay is a custom baseball field with a cushioned, rubberized surface that allows players with disabilities to experience the game of baseball. It features wheelchair- and walker-accessible dugouts and a flat surface to eliminate any barriers to players with restricted mobility or who are visually impaired.
The Miracle League of Findlay is committed to providing a safe, fun, and positive environment for our players to learn and play baseball. We strive to be an organization where each athlete’s ability can be developed to the highest level possible. Before this project there was no shade around the field where players and families could take cover before, during, or after the game. Our population is sensitive to heat and sun. Having shade over the bleachers will aid in providing them sun protection as well as giving their families and fans protection during the game.
We were excited to team up with the Findlay Dermatology group — especially husband-and-wife team Rebecca Scarbrough, CNP and Chase Scarbrough, DO, a local AAD member — to support our project. On April 23, 2022 we held our dedication ceremony with all of our donors, supporters, our Miracle League players, and their families. Dr. Scarbrough spoke about the importance of sun protection for all those that will use the facility going forward.
We’re so excited our new structures will provide shade over the bleachers, protecting families each day from the sun’s harmful ultraviolet rays and helping to reduce their risk of skin cancer.
